Backpack Program:
Throughout the summer, the Joshua Project Volunteers deliver food to needy children in outlying areas of Schoharie County and a portion of Albany County.
Each week the Foodbank delivers a supply of food to Middleburgh where the food is then divided up into bags. Each bag represents a backpack of food that will feed a child, breakfast & lunch, for a week. Once the food has been divided up, volunteers have delivery routes and the food is taken directly to the children’s home.
This program runs once a week and takes about a day to complete. About two hours in the morning to divide the food up and load up each delivery car. The deliveries are then completed and generally take no more than two hours.
In 2014, over 8000 meals were delivered to children in need. This program is funded by The United Way and food is supplied by The Capital District Regional Foodbank.
In 2014, The Joshua Project received a “Community Impact Award” for its successful completion of the program..
